ATTENTION CALIFORNIA RETIRED VETERANS.INSPIRED BY MY SONS COLLEGE COST....JAN 2015..

ATTENTION CALIFORNIA RETIRED VETERANS . INSPIRED BY MY SONS COLLEGE COST !!!
  Attention California Veterans, especially my fellow retirees of the US NAVY, US MARINE CORPS , UNITED STATES ARMY AND AIR FORCES.
   Because we served and sacrificed a major part of pr lives to protect and serve the United States, we were honored and given many rights and benefits that others are not open or eligible for. But based on my own experience I see and hear many of my fellow veterans are not aware or know how to apply and receive this great benefit. I just recently applied and was eligible to receive the CAL VET WAIVER FEES.. In other words , the state of California will pay for college fees , tuition's , for dependents of retired veterans who are requesting assistance for college education.
  Basically this is how it works;
1) Have your son or daughter speak with the veterans / financial aid office at the campus, They can give you the latest info on this matter. If not possible , go to www.cacvso.org or www.cdva.ca.govfor the application , needs t be done or renewed every year.
2) Complete application and make a copy for future reference.

Before you can apply you need to go to the Franchise Tax Board office in San Diego,CA 92108
SAN DIEGO OFFICE , SUITE 201, 7575 METROPOLITAN DRIVE SAN DIEGO CA 92108
800-852-5711

1) Student needs their Social Security Number and Valid photo ID, Drivers license, Passport, Student ID.
2) Go tot he window that is issuing Income Verification Letter, usually they have postings directing you to correct window, After a few minutes they will give you that letter and you ready to go to the VA office for final completion.

Next go to the County of San Diego  VA services office located at 5560 overland Avenue,Suite 310,San Diego CA 92123 , 858-694-3222, 858-505-6961.

What you need or must have to complete the process;
1) Birth Certificate - First time users of the program must show the student and veteran name on it. If the last names are different , then you will need Marriage certificate of the veteran of the parent.
2) Tax information-They need previous year tax information for the student , if they're not working , that's where the income verification letter comes into place..  ( FRANCHISE TAX BOARD OFFICE AT 7575 METROPOLITAN DRIVE , SAN DIEGO CA 92108.
3) Veterans service Connected Rating Decision letter. Usually sent from VA regional Offices , I received mine from VA REGIONAL OFFICE 3333 N. CENTRAL AVE , PHOENIX AZ 85012-2402, You can also call 1-887-222-VETS (8387) to get more information about your compensation benefits.
4) Email address: Please write it to the left of II . School information on application..

You can Mail , Fax to County Veterans Service Office, 5560 Overland Ave Suite 310, San Diego CA 92123 , phone 858-694-3222, FAX 858-505-6961 , or you can email forms to sdcvso.hhsa@sdconty.ca.gov

I hope this works and take advantage of a benefit we all earned and need for our kids education. If anything I always teach and preach benefit awareness to my fellow veterans and Americans!

Have a great day and keep researching for saving for retirement years!!
