How I avoid being Tax Audited? Based on Years of filing Taxes.. April 15, 2015 is the deadline!
Well hello everyone and welcome to another useful blog on finances.. Now I have been filing taxes for as long as I have been working,, since I was 15 1/2 years..
Here are my tips,,
1) Always file your taxes!! be early than late.. By being late,, it just looks like your hiding or trying to hide,,
2) Always keep good record of everything.. Like place past tax returns in files,, and keep them.. I have at least the past 7 years,,
3) I use excel spread sheets as well as receipts for everything I plan to claim as deductibles.. As a entrepreneur,, I claim everything, gas, food, clothing, car expenses.. etc.. But you must receipts .ON the back I put what they are like business, or gas , food , etc.. I also put dates .. on them too. use a highlighter for dates , amounts etc.. It just make sit easier for you and the tax preparer.
4) Totals for everything you have , it will save you time when you do your taxes , or when you take it to a Tax preparer..
5) Never claim more than you make or deduct more than you actually do.. Remember the taxman is looking for consistency, if you show a wide gap one year to the next , that's a red flag..
6) Always keep track of all your interest or dividend statements and most of all be honest.
7) lastly, by having organized files and filing systems, you can be ready for a tax audit if it should occur, But I haven't been audited in my 50 years of tax filing,, and I believe its based on being consistent , and filing on time. regardless if I owe or expect a return.
Tax laws always change so it good to have a tax preparer to do your taxes. Like Child credit is now only up to 14 years of age..
Also the standard deductions you can declare is $12,400, anything more than that its money in your pocket, so save your receipts for clothing and uniform expense , especially if your military , or law enforcement or health fields... Remember deductions reduce the amount you going to be taxed. For example,, if your total income was 80,000. you subtract 12,400 - which is 68,600 is the your taxable income.. that's a big difference and can mean a larger refund.. Just something to keep in mind if you plan to deduct , which many Tax payers fail to do , or just don't make the effort.. Charitable donations are deductible,,
Lastly, I hope these tips are helpful and a kind reminder ,, April 15, 2015 is the last day to file taxes,, unless you request a extension.. So don't delay and be organized,, By having your forms you need and if you have receipts.,, clip them up and add the totals.. so tax preparations can be fast and easy. My taxes were done in about one hours time.. Why? because I had excel spread sheets with my receipts attached and all my proper paper forms clipped up and in folders.
Have a great day and Lets make this and other tax seasons, effortless and smooth ..
