THE BARKADA GIRLS FROM SOUTH SIDE.. INSPIRED STORY FROM AZTECS,
The Barkada girls.. Whats that? Those were the girls that looked sweet when you treated them well, but were the devils when you dissed them or pissed them off. That's one thing I will never forget is that those girls we grew up were no doubt the sweetest and prettiest girls around , but heaven help you if you pissed them off. even today. I still feel like those girls still will beat you down if they had too. Yea.. those days were special indeed. We didn't have all the gadgets today, but you know.. I think we had more fun.. anyways,, and I feel like we manufactured fun more.. We had too, We didn't have all the fancy stuff today,, and to be honest,, I wouldn't change those years at all. We all enjoyed each other,,, we had our fights.. the cat fights were the best,, Because girls , unlike guys, when they fight its all about hurting ., its all about throwing down.. no posing, no egos.. just pure excitement, I mean when we heard fight and it girls,,,, we all ran to see , because the pulling of the hair, the tearing off tops,, or what were vicious.. Buts its funny girls usually fought girls.. , guys fought guys, Mexicans fought each other, Filipinos, etc.. It was weird how that worked or didn't.. But despite that,, We all found time to share one the best times of our lives.. No doubt,, its too bad.. we didn't think it was the best of times.. We thought better times were ahead.. Which is true, I love seeing all the wonderful photos , videos, stories, comments from all of you,, Its great to see a lot us Do so well. I know we lost quite a few family and friends, and shed many tears,, But that's what life is all about. The older we get the more we realize how precious those days were. The barkada girls.. were something else.. They were Real tough girls, that south side really gained the rep.. Now that I think of it.. We all went through that wanna be gangster , bomber jacket or dickies jacket days,, The martial arts schools. UKF , UMA AND KKK-- KWONS KOREAN KARATE.. were the schools that had some of the most talented fighters.. I miss punching and kicking in the hallways or the school yards and always looking for action.. Am I proud of those days, yes and no,, But we were young and dumb and full of fun.. But at least we didn't break out shot guns and massacre one another. Yea,we fought,, we shook hands and then we went on.. But today's sensitive , politically correct days, we don't see that anymore, It seems we are too civilized now... to deal with loud mouths or weird behavior.. My kids always say your embarrassing papa..your too loud and proud.. But you know what,, Its a product of the times I grew up in.. We we vocal , emotional and sensitive kids that express ourselves,, Not like today, People don't talk anymore, people just write or text,, The art of talking is gone,, We the Barkadas , the Cholos, the surfers.. the student bodies, we voiced our dislikes and our happiness. Sure we fought,, but in the end, We realized we are just kids having fun,,finding each other and finally graduating from the best High school in San Diego, Montgomery High School Aztecs.. Are you ready ? ok.. We have spirit how about you..? We got spirit how about you,.,? Yeah, those corny cheers at pep rallies and games, but atleast we had more fun than today's kids.. who are lost in games , and ipods.. and computers, games, etc. We are the last generation of kids that know how to have fun ,, just by being together.. laughing , talking , joking, dancing.. singing,. or what.. we connected via personal contact.,, not like the kids today.. For the Barkada gals and boys and the Surfers from IB , or the pop lockers from the south side. We all did our things and we survived the times... For those of us that remain, I salute you and I wish you all the greatest time of your life.. We had fun and the fact we still keep in touch is a very awesome experience,,Even for just a moment, I hope I brought back those memories of the days gone by and recall those barkada girls and boys that ran around the South side,, we were so stereotypical gangster,, but it was harmless and to think about it, kind of silly.. But at the time we all thought we were BAD ASSES!! Well for a brief moment in our lives, I know we were.. Thank goodness we all out grew that!?!? or did we?? hehe.. Take care my fellow Aztecs and Mayans,, those were the days,,...
