GARAGE PARTIES .. 80S.. INSPIRED BY LIFE EVENTS..
HI EVERYONE.. well back in the day ,.. when it was cool and safe to party in front of your house or in this case ,the garage parties.. Those were the days when you could walk around at night and feel safe.. well kinda of.. I grew up in Oakland and Long Beach and being a Navy brat we lived in the hood.. But when papa retired in San Diego. the southside.. it was special.. for whatever reason the south side had Filipinos. ruling the area.. It made the cholos mad.. Because you had these short skinny Asians with Bruce looks and cocky as fuck.. Yup back in the day The Pinoys were the shits. WE could fight , we could dance.. pop lock was the craze back in the day. And we all were build the same and had the same feathered back hair.. We were the typical stereotypes.. smart , athletic and cocky. Perhaps our dads who were proud Navy guys.. It rubbed off on us.. Man. those were days.. we wore the angel flights ,, and member only jackets.. you guys and gals remember.. WE were so predictable.. but the girls back in the day were fine.. I loved them.. that was my problem.. I couldn't stick to one girl..I loved every home girl.. yea.. flirt.. I think I invented it to a new level.. But I learned from the best.. and who was that? The girls.. of course,.. I knew how to play them.. so to speak.. or they let me think that.. But back to parties..
Back in the 80's.. cassette tapes.. u guys remember.. using a pencil to fix it.. The rubics cube.. remember that.. how funny that was our toys back in the day.. Poloroids ,, you guys remember that? Taking a picture and waving it in the area to make it develop fAst.. geez,, we were living in the pre computer days.. we were barbaric.. You guys remember going to phone booths to make calls to our girls.. because we didn't want our parents to know.. or be bothered by our brothers and sisters.. I recall going to video game places.. like the Silver Q in chula vista. u guys remember. taking the bus down on third ave in chula vista.. Man.. how about going to third avenue news.. it was a place where I read the Martial arts mags,, and ended up buying it because it had Bruce Lee photo on the front cover. That place made a killing off me.. I was or still am a Bruce Lee fan.. I still practice my nunchuckus.. I'm pretty good I have posted it on my face book page .. oh well back to the garage parties..
It was nice , chilling in the garage.. it was decked out and had dj's playing our records,,and of course the guys would show off our pop lock moves.. I was the ultimate show off. still am.. But I would incorporate martial moves,, that's what made my pop locking different.. I would do splits and be spectacular.. The more girls.. there The crazier I got.. Man, those were days.. sneaking a beer , smokimg a joint out side. The weed was not as potent as today.. But it sure relaxed us.. I miss those days. The adidas sweats and shoes.. Than you RUN DMC.. ICE T , LL COOL J.. MAN.. those were some great times.. especially summer time.. walking around with our boom boxes,, and card board. We didn't fight.. we danced or out popped each other.. well check that.. we did fight .. at times because the battles we had got personal., I mean we got in each others faces and personal spaces.. We would dis respect each other with vulgar moves, grabbing our genitals.. man.. we were silly kids.. and even when we fought it was harmless.. , No drive bys,, no shootings .. it was face to face fights. man.. how times changes.. I miss those simpler times.. We didn't have all the gadgets .. back then we had to talk to people.. we had to talk to girls.. Now.. everything is texting or email.. OR THE OTHER
stuff Instagram.. etc.. everything today is visual.. nothing is personal.. everything is time related.. No one has time .. its too bad.. that's how you get to know people.. But todays youth.. are in hurry all the time.. Come to think about it. even back in the day.. we were always in a hurry.. haha..
The garage parties were cool because you could see people walking by .. and of course people crashed each others parties.. especially the dancers,, when we heard the loud music.. we went there,, and of course. we were welcomed , it seemed we all knew each other.. Montgomery , Southwest , Sweetwater , Morse .Mira Mesa, . Castle Park , Bonita Vista.. those were the schools .. I think I messed with girls from all those schools... I think MORSE . HAD THE FINEST.. next to Montgomery.. Man. u guys remember the groups .. Commodores, Cameo , Earth wind and Fire. Lakeside,.Confunkshun, Slave , Bootsy Collins, Parliament , Funkadelic, Zapp and Roger , Gap Band, Mass production.. Sun, Ray Parker, Jr. Chaka khan.. Prince. Michael Jackson.. Man.. that was the golden years of hip hop music.. or funk.. Man.. I really miss those days. I never get tired of those groups .. I still listen and dance to those tunes.. I believe the music you grew up especially jr high and high school.. you remember the tunes.. Zoom. Just to be close to you.. Walk this way.. Fantastic voyage.. Burn rubber . Fun, September, Why have I lost you ? yea,, those were the jams.. But most of all , I believe we respected one another.. sure the girls kept us in check. But they also were fine. Back in those days.. girls were girls.. they talked , they laughed and told you the truth.. NO fakes,, they were real. That's why I loved every girl back then.. That's why I had to travel to other schools to have a girl. , what a waste.. ? I wasted time taking the bus or driving around.. back in the day.. But that's why I loved those days.. The garage parties were special because it was cool to have a party in the garage. Now.. its so different.. Parties , are not the same.. People are too uptight about upset if neighbors.. blasting their music.. Its a good thing My neighbors don't bother me .. or maybe they are scared of me.. gun toting , veteran with PTSD... don't mess with that guy.. haha... but back to my blog.. the garage parties was a big part of our lives growing. up..It seemed it was more popular then the school dances.. The garage parties were like status symbols, who could have the most people at your party. and of course having the best dance crews coming over made the event.. It was cool going up to girl and dance.. Man.. we were really a special breed.. because we talked to one another and we cared.. That's why we called our female friends.. " home girls.. and the home boys.. we protected each other. or at least. we tried.. We had our fights.. We were young and dumb and full of cum.. We had lots of energy.. that's why I pop locked and studied martial arts.. But I was a free style dancer and fighter/.. I didn't like doing katas.. that's set of moves.. in karate.. like dancing you have set movements you followed and then you free styled like.. me. I was great at watching you and then stealing or making your moves , my moves.. I was a great imitator.. Im not sure I was really a good dancer. But I acted like I was. Same with fighting , I won a lot of fights based on reputation … or I acted like I could fight.. But when I did fight I made sure it was quick....and fast.. I was never in a long fight.. If the punches and kicks didn't knock you out.. I would grab you and take you to the ground.. and then it gets broken up.. haha.. The truth hurts.. haha.. But those garage parties will always have a special place in my heart.. I remember the girls I used to flirt and dance with.. Man those days were full of fun.. But then again.. It went fast.. That's why if your young. enjoy your youth.. because its the best time of your life. Before you have to grow up , get a job, get married , have kids.. raise them.. mortgage , bills , head aches.. anxiety about the future.. Then.. your old... like me.. and living the second child hood ,, or the mid life crisis.. haha.. Yea garage parties.. were the shits. and I hope the folks who grew up in that era.. You enjoyed the flash back in time.. when you went to those parties.. and joked with one another and wanted to show off your dance skills.. and of course get the girls attention.. Times never change.. Guys always want to attract the females.,. even in middle age.. haha.. yea the best times of my life was partying at those garage parties.. because if you know filipinos.. they have a feast.. al the lumpias,, the rice. barbeques pork.. I mean,, irt amazing we didn't get fat, maybe because we danced and worked out a lot back in the day.. Yea,, were spoiled brats,, we had everything , the coolest clothes the hair styles.. the cars ,, no wonder the cholos hated us.. But most of my fights were against pinoys from other schools.. go figure.. we fought one another because we were jealous of one another. But come to think , we were the same spoiled brats, that wore the coolest clothes and shoes and drove the nicest cars.. and had the prettiest girls in town.. YUP THE south san diego girls from mayans and Aztecs,. . we were a family. I miss that vibes we had.. BUT I STILL trip out when I check out face book and the home girls.. are still the same .. we may be older.. but we still have that jr high thinking ,.. when we communicate on face book.. For the homegirls from Montgomery.. I love you all and I miss you all and we need to have a reunion.. I can still dance.. so you know you have the pop locker to entertain... just feed me afterwards,, haha..
I hope you all loved a trip down memory lane. WE need that . especially during this stay home order still in effect//
Take care everyone and be safe until my next blog..
