Montgomery Mayans - Hang out !?! told by someone from the past , an unknown source..
ok, way back when when we were skinny teenagers growing up in South San Diego , which is east Of Imperial Beach and South of Chula Vista , but North of San Ysidro, huh? Yes , a sort hidden melting pot of all the races, You had Filipino's , Mexicans , Guamanian's , Hawaiians, Italians , Germans, Blacks,, but we all got along? I think we did , sure we were stubborn about how to dress or act , and we were ever so judgemental on who we were dating . But thats what mades us proud Mayans right? Well after school , alot of us Alex, Derwin, Eric , Myron, Elizabeth, Anita , Grace , Sherry, Janie , Rose , gosh alot of us would walk to Alex's house which was on the busiest street in the neighborhood. I believe its called Picador or what ? I know the memory is horrible , I mean I haven't lived there in many years and I'm sure alot of you may not recall the name of the street , but you know what I'm talking about. Well anyways , we would go there and listen to LP's YES records.. Group's like Bootsy Collins . Parliament " Flashlight" Bar kays - Lets have some fun , Confunkshun , Cameo , Earth wind and Fire and overplayed Heatwave" Boogie Night's and Central heating.. God I loved that music back in the day but Alex played the group to the point of nausea,, oh well it was the hangout , we could listen dance , and do slap boxing,, that's where you slap the guy or girl before they slap you.. I must say I was pretty good and the girls were fun to be with.. To be honest , I think I had a crush on all of them why not? All the girls i mentioned were slim , fit , beautiful black hair and great complexions and great senses of humor. But I also think they were the greatest teasers and all of us guys fell for that. But back to the story , we would spend hours it seems listening to the same music , dancing the same moves and watchin who would walk by Alex's house. Often times I would see my girl Liz and of course I always made a scene ,. I know this embarrassed her and probably why she broke up with me. I wanted too much attention and she was a shy quiet girl,.. Or at least I thought so?? Never mind that.. Just a thought.. Now that we are older , those times laughing and dancin at Alex's house are going to be the best memories ever. I would love for all the people I mentioned and anyone else from that class to perhaps get together plays those old tunes again and tell stories about growing up a Mayan.. I know there is alot of us still out there and I would love for you to tell your stories or remind me so I can retell them.. I wasn't every where , even though it seems I was. One thing is for sure our clothing style and hair styles back in the day was second to none and everytime I see those old photos , I cant help but smile and remember back in the days as a proud Montgomery Mayans.. Keep the faith and keep in touch and stay tuned for more memories from the Past... A Mel Paras Productions@ 2011, with association with The Source @Productions 2011..
