Wild card weekend Analysis- Jan 13, 2011
Well, the wild card weekend was indeed wild and unpredictable kind of like the whole season. But here's my breakdowns or spins on why the various teams won or lost their games.
Ravens at Chiefs- Simple turnovers and inability to have a stable offensive game plan. You can't have 5 turnovers in the playoffs and win . It just wont happen unless the other team does the same. I feel the pressure of being in a playoff game , made the Chiefs nervous and unsure of themselves. Ravens took advantage but they weren't overwhelming. Chiefs made it too easy for the ravens to advance!
Jets at Colts- This was a low scoring defensive chess match , with Peyton Manning's delivering on a good late game drive to get into range for what appeared to be a game winning Field goal by Adam Vinateiri, but the Mark Sanchez led team managed to get into Field goal range , thanks to a inexplicable time out by Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell, the facial expression and the body language by Manning on the sideline was " Priceless" He could not understand that call, and to be honest I don't either. Why call a timeout , when The Jets only had one left to use, let them call it, in other words you gave them more time to get down the field without using their timeout. Bad coaching decision cost the Colts the game. The Jets were good , but not overwhelming.
Seahawks at Saints- This was a high scoring and exciting game , but who thought the Saint defense would be so horrible. Drew Brees had a monster game , but with no consistent defensive play , this game ended up like a street ball game where the last team with the ball and scores before it gets too dark wins. Matt Hasselback had a career day in a playoff game , from the worst record team ever to make NFL Playoffs. Give credit to Hasselback , but the Saints defense failed their team and the home crowd, you should never let any visiting team run up a score like that at home. No doubt the Biggest upset and shock in NFL playoff history!
Packers at Eagles- Aaron Rodgers was amazing early , but average through out the game. The eagles let the game get out of hand early and had to play catch up throughout the whole game. But David Akers missing 2 chip shot field goals changed the outlook and game plan for the Eagles. make those points and the eagles would have been leading and protecting a lead late in the game , instead , playing catch up and trying to score a Touch down to win the game. Missed opportunities , you can't do that against good team in the playoffs. Michael Vick is amazing to watch , but he's skill players dropped to many passes throughout the game to help him. In my opinion it was more the eagles failing to take advantage of scoring opportunities than the Packers dominating this game.
I expect this weekends games to be close games with turnover ratio and ball control teams , with strong defensive performances will win. My predictions coming later in the week Enjoy!
