 SOUTHSIDES "THE PITS" inspired story from someone I once knew..
  Ok, guys and girls , this place was a special place for some of the white boys Lon , Layne, Guy , Mark, John and myself. Ok the location is in South San Diego , by the 805 freeway at the east end of Palm Ave, by Palmridge park. back in the day that was all dirt roads , In fact once upon a time my baby brother took his brand new Toyota 4x4 AND GOT STUCKED. I heard about it , I think I was working making money. I had too , to pay for my brand new truck. Toyota 4x4.. Ok, lets back track a bit., back in high school the racers , the guys with fast cars like to cruise their and break out the kegs of beer , bonfires and trippy talks and jokes. It wasn't a particularly a nice spot, because that where we all dumped our trash , like tires , batteries , oil , etc.. I know that's not environmentally safe and the fools that bought homes there are probably gonna have issues in the future.. I mean we called the place the pits .. because it was a haz waste dumping ground. Im sure any water down there is contaminated and the soil there is not very good. I sure would eat any fruits from any vegetation growing in those backyards. but hey.. what can you do? We liked to play our loud music. AC DC , VAN HALEN , RUSH , JOURNEY , BLACK SABBATH , were just some of the band blaring in those days.. We also did dum stuff like racing cars and trucks or doing dangerous maneuvers around that tricky and steep area. Did the cops police the place, yes and no.. but most of the time ., we were left alone. But when that one night , when it got out of control, I wasn't there , but I heard one of the girls got raped. Am i surprised , yes and no, Imean alot of guys , drinking , girls flirting , secluded area,, yea it was a bad scene ready to happen. Well , after that incident , police activity increased and before long it became a off limits and prohibited area. The place we once went to party was gone,. But the memories of watching some of the girls. Linda. Lana. , connie , cathy. I know im missing alot of names but that was ages ago. But one thing is certain.. The Pits was a memorable place for the rockers  surfers , and racers of the the south side . We weren't a big group , but I must say some of the best keggers were done by these groups , we called the loadies , the stoners.. I really miss those days with my rock partners, but like everything in our young lives , things had to change. We soon graduated and went our separate ways. I know we said we would stay in touch forever , but I know now we needed to split up and find ourselves..Which after all these years , I've found out through my Face book connections , That those party hardy white guys were totally the best ber drinking guys in South side or any where else in San Diego.. For those about to rock < we salute you!!., A classic AC DC song.. Bot those were some fun and crazy times.. I hope for those who were there , a look back in time will open up your fond memories of one the the most popular sites in South Side., san Diego..
